Director, Azure Application Platform
As Director of Program Management for the Azure Application Platform, Bill Staples is responsible for the user experience and developer/application services that make up Microsoft’s public cloud platform as well as key technologies that ship in support of Windows Server, Visual Studio, .NET Framework and Office. These include numerous Windows Azure Services (Web Sites, Mobile Services, Media Services, Service Bus), the overall Windows Azure User Experience, portal, billing integration and SDK, as well as key Windows and .NET technologies including IIS, ASP.NET, WCF, EF, Workflow, WebMatrix, and Visual Web Developer.
Bill joined Microsoft in 1999 and worked on the IIS6 re-architecture team that responded to Code Red and Nimda. As PUM for IIS7 he lead the vision to modernize Microsoft’s Web server platform and once it shipped took on overall responsibilities as General Manager for the Microsoft Web Platform including developer frameworks, tools and servers. In July of 2011, Bill moved to Windows Azure to help the Web platform team expand their focus to public cloud in addition to founding a new user experience team for Windows Azure to revolutionize how customers visualize and interact with the public cloud.
